Hiking

Another top night parked in the middle of nowhere by a big drop about 5 miles outside of Ille sur Tet and about eight as we were getting washed a Frenchman in a car stopped and knocked on the door saying the road ahead was blocked due to filming !!!! So we packed up and headed to Vinca where we had breakfast up a mountain road overlooking a large lake :) After shopping and exploring in the lovely old town of Vinca we headed up into the mountains past fields of peaches and grapes !!!
We stopped in a nice looking village of Baillesavy for lunch because of it’s hill top church and river :) we then found a notice board giving directions on laminated cards of local walks so we packed a picnic and headed off on the two hour hike up to the church, then on to a waterfall with small pool and back along the river !!!
Things started well enough following the marked route with a little help from a local by the church we made it to the pool in an hour up some steep and rugged paths !!! We had the picnic here thinking we were half way around and continued following the red and white marks on trees and rocks but after about two hours realised we had missed the path back and must be on the long walk !!!! The accent seemed to last for ages but we finially made the village of Valmanya and found a welcome water spout in the square where we refilled our bottle :)
Now the last part of the trip the 5 km trek down the mountain road back to our van :) we made it back our 2 hour hike taking 6 !!!!!!!! So we had a great adventure could have done with a few hours less walking after three days of speedsailing but the scenery was fantastic – shame about the flys :(
With more wind forecast for Sun/Mon we head back to the Etang near Leucate to chase the elusive 40 knots !!!!!!
